    Reading Towers Above the Competition

    Company Name: Shenandoah Tower Service

    Reading Products: Reading Panel Body

Type of Service: Construction and maintenance of communication towers

Count Shenandoah Tower Service among the converted.  In the past, they had used other truck body manufacturers but the company wasn’t satisfied with their quality or their functionality.  So, they decided to give a Reading a try.  One Reading purchase was all they needed to realize that Reading towers above the competition.  They’ve bought only Reading bodies since then.

Currently, 45 of the 55 trucks in their fleet have Reading bodies on them.  Their most recent addition to their fleet is a Reading Panel Body.  It was purchased for use as a service truck for one of their tower crews.

According to Cole Stiteler, Assistant Director of Site Development, the transition to Reading was seamless.  “It was obvious that Reading had a superior product and a whole different quality of construction.  They’ve earned their reputation.  It’s a step up.”

“Our crews noticed a big difference with the Reading bodies.  The deep compartments allow them to carry all of their bulky equipment,” said Stiteler.

They utilize the compartments and cargo area to haul climbing gear, rigging, and safety gear along with all of different types of tools and materials.  Stiteler explained that a “4-man crew uses quite a bit of equipment and safety apparatus.”

Located in Staunton, VA, Shenandoah Tower Service primarily serves the wireless/digital communication market.  They construct, service, and maintain communication towers as well as participate in site acquisitions, excavating, and other engineering functions.  They’ve been in business 18 years, employ 130 people, and are members of NATE and VOSHA.

Shenandoah Tower Service customized the Reading Panel Body with slip tape on the ledge above the compartments, a flip-out step with handle on the back, pull-out drawers, and a ladder rack.

The Reading Panel Body was purchased through General Truck Body Company, an authorized Reading distributor, in Roanoke, VA.

Standard features include construction of two-sided A60 galvannealed steel and Lectro-Life® immersion priming for complete rust protection.  Other standard features include automotive-quality rotary locks for secure protection to tools and equipment; stainless steel bolt-on hinges keeping the compartment doors operating smoothly in all weather conditions; and double paneled compartment doors offering greater durability.

Reading Spacemaster Helps Fill Communication Gap

    Company Name: Eichelberger Construction Inc.

    Reading Products: Spacemaster

Type of Service: Construction and maintenance of communication towers

Eichelberger Construction, Inc. (ECI) recently purchased two Reading Spacemaster service bodies for use as service trucks.  The Reading Spacemaster service bodies are mounted on 1999 Ford F350 crew cab chassis.

According to Chuck Dawson, Facilities Manager, ECI chose the Reading Spacemaster service bodies because they “seemed to be the best choice to suit our needs.”  The Reading Spacemaster service bodies offer easily accessible exterior storage compartments and an enclosed cargo area.  The cargo area is accessible through rear double doors.

ECI has their Reading Spacemaster service bodies equipped with tools and equipment needed for tower erection and for maintenance service.  They also have the trucks equipped with a trailer hitch to pull cable line up the tower.

ECI provides the erection, installation and maintenance of communication towers including cellular towers and Emergency 911 towers.  Other departments within their organization deal with general contracting and specialized facility service programs, including custom designs and service to fit consumers specific needs.  They have been providing service to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware since 1993.

Covering such a vast territory means they must have the ability to transport a variety of tools and equipment to a job site.  The Reading Spacemaster service body offers the room to not only transport a lot of tools and equipment, but it allows ECI to maintain organization and efficiency.

ECI purchased their Ford truck and Reading Spacemaster through K & H Ford, Mechanicsburg, PA, and Crest Truck Equipment, an authorized Reading distributor located in Bowmansville, PA.

Standard Reading features include construction of two-sided A60 galvannealed steel combined with Reading’s Lectro-Life® immersion priming.  Lectro-Life® acts as a critical aid in the fight against rust and corrosion; flange-mounted rubber door seals provide weathertight protection to tools and equipment stored in the compartments; and stainless steel bolt-on hinges offer greater security and smooth operation of the compartment doors in all weather conditions.

Reading’s Service Body is an Asset to R & B Communications

    Company Name: R & B Communications

Reading Products: Classic® Series service body

    Type of Service: Telecommunications

R & B Communications recently purchased a custom Reading Classic® Series Service Body to utilize as their service and maintenance vehicle.

According to Tom Orr, Vice President, they purchased a Reading Classic® Series service body because of the “name recognition and quality” that Reading products are known for.  “We have used Reading products on our units for a number of years.”

R & B Communications chose to have the Reading Classic® Series service body, model 108GADWC, mounted on a 1998 Chevy C30.  They customized the body with a platform extension, an access ladder, a custom ladder rack, and two Aluma Chock® chock block holders.  Reading’s Aluma Chock® is all-aluminum and does not require painting, thus enhancing the life of the body due to aluminum’s natural resistance to rust and corrosion.  Rust and corrosion is a problem common in steel holders as a result of scratches in the paint from removing the blocks.

Some additional Reading features include a Spacemaker™ top opening compartment on the curbside, and master locking.  Reading’s Spacemaker™ compartments have 15 dividers for storage of small tools and parts, and add 15% more storage space to the body.  Reading’s spring loaded master locking system locks all side compartments simultaneously adding convenience, time savings, and security to tools.

R & B Communications also had an aerial lift mounted for easy access to the job at hand, and outriggers were installed for stability while the aerial device is in operation.  Outrigger pad holders were mounted under the front vertical compartments on each side for pad storage.  And, an AC portable generator was mounted in the bed of the service body to aid them in powering AC outlets.  It’s portable capability aids them when there are power outages in remote sites.  They also had two rotating strobe lights mounted for caution when the aerial tower is in use.

The spacious compartments help organize their fiber splicing materials, cables, connectors, cable closures, and other materials needed on the job.  The cargo area is utilized to transport specialty items and to carry trash from each job site.

R & B Communications is a telecommunications company and has been in business since 1900, servicing a 500 square mile area.  Their fleet of 40 vehicles consists of cars, vans, and trucks, several of which are Reading service bodies.  They employ 80 personnel and are a member of USTA (US Telephone Association) and OPASTCO (The Organization for Promotion and Advancement for Small Telephone Companies).

The Reading Classic® Series Service Body was purchased through Special Fleet Service, an authorized Reading distributor, located in Harrisonburg, VA.

Each Classic® Series service body is completely constructed of two-sided zinc-coated A-60 galvannealed steel, which provides the first layer of rust protection.  After the bodies are assembled, they receive Reading’s Lectro-Life® immersion priming process providing the most complete rust and corrosion protection in the industry.  Other standard features include double panel compartment doors for increased strength; bolt-on stainless steel pin hinges which securely hold doors in place and ensure smoother operation in all weather conditions; flange-mounted automotive rubber door seals providing weathertight protection of tools and equipment; automotive-quality, rotary locks which offer greater security to valuable tools and equipment; and a rugged understructure that is reinforced at all critical stress points providing optimum durability.
